However, there are a couple of foods in Beijing you will want to avoid at all costs, not because you will die if you eat them, but because they will get you sick and disgusted. Not to sound too harsh, there are some truly delicious foods found in Beijing as well, but if you want to have good, decent holidays in Beijing, please avoid the following foods no matter what! Most of these foods are nowhere close to anything you have eaten before and there is a high chance you will end up getting sick just after seeing them alone!

1. Avoid Ordering Pasta

You should certainly try to avoid ordering Western foods in China, and one of them is pasta. There are certain restaurants that can make good pasta in Beijing, but they are all overall rather bad. Most people who order pasta in Beijing end up getting food poisoning or simply stay hungry.

Just like pasta, pizza is one of the foods you do not want to get a taste of in Beijing. There are many who thought ordering pizza is a safe option, but they ended up getting food poisoning. If you are in China, it is simply best to stick to Chinese food, especially if you are in Beijing. If anything, at least do research before ordering from certain restaurants in Beijing, luckily, today there is the internet you can use to check it all out!

3. Avoid Eating Fried Scorpions

Do crunchy scorpions dipped in vinegar sound like a delicious thing to you? If so, you must be crazy! If you find yourself roaming the northern entrance of Wangfujing Street, there is a high possibility you will notice the Dobghaument Snack market. Here, you can actually order deep-fried black scorpions served on a stick.

Most Chinese people will tell you this is a decent snack, but seriously, if you never tried this before, you probably never should either. However, the sting of the scorpion is completely removed before the preparation of the meal, and it is not poisonous at all. Chinese tradition claims eating the tail actually makes your manhood strong, how true is this? No one really knows.

4. Avoid Eating Century Eggs

The name itself speaks the whole story! These eggs are actually from the previous century. Century egg is usually known as ‘’Black Egg’’ and they are always preserved in clay, wood ash salt for multiple months.

These eggs have been a ‘’thing’’ since the Ming dynasty and most of it smells really odd, odder than you can imagine. These eggs are considered to be a delicacy and they are found literally anywhere you go.

6. Avoid Eating Scarab Beetle

Yes, in Beijing, people actually eat scarab beetles. It might sound crazy, but apparently, these are deep-fried in soybean oil and are sprinkled with secret local spices. The Chinese simply love these and they tend to feel mouth-watering seeing it all, however, you probably will not! While these beetles are not even close to the beetles you are used to seeing, they are still beetles and they are actually collected from the villages all around China.

These come from the tree branches at night and they are mainly gathered via a big plastic sheet underneath the tree.

Some of these Asian delicacies are loved and enjoyed by the locals who have the stomaches that can hold on to these foods, but your typical holidaymaker certainly shouldn’t try these as they are really only for those with strong constitutions and not to bothered that their whole holiday could be ruined if they do try to match those who are used to eating these foods.
